Micawber Privacy Policy

What Micawber keeps, and where

Your budget

Groups, categories, budgets and planned amounts, transactions with their payee and date, funds and their entries with any note, and your currency. These are kept in Micawber’s own storage on your iPhone.

Micawber’s settings

Whether automatic backups are on, when and where the last backup was saved, and the order the Budget screen shows income, spending and saving in. These are kept in Micawber’s own settings on your iPhone and read only by Micawber.

Backups

Automatic backups, and the copy Micawber saves before a restore, are files in your own iCloud Drive, under iCloud Drive › Micawber in the Files app. While iCloud Drive is off or you are signed out of iCloud, they are saved on your iPhone instead, under On My iPhone › Micawber.

Copies taken before an update

When an update changes how Micawber stores your data, it first copies its data files to On My iPhone › Micawber, on your iPhone.

Exports

Export JSON makes a file on your iPhone and hands it to the share sheet. It goes only where you send it.

Files you restore

A backup or export you choose to restore is read on your iPhone. The file stays where it was.

The device log

Micawber notes in your iPhone’s own log when it opens its data and writes backups: file names, places and errors, never the contents of your budget. The log stays on your iPhone.

iCloud Drive

Micawber makes no network connections of its own. Backups reach the internet only through iCloud Drive, which iOS runs: it uploads them to your iCloud account, under your Apple Account, where only you can read them. The developer has no access to them. Apple’s own privacy policy covers iCloud.

Backups are plain JSON files, protected by your Apple Account. If you turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud, they are end-to-end encrypted.

Nothing leaves your iPhone in any other way, except what you send yourself from the share sheet.

Links in the app

Support and Privacy Policy in Micawber’s Settings open this website in your browser. The app sends nothing with them.

What Apple handles

Apple sells and delivers Micawber through the App Store; the developer receives no payment details or personal information from your purchase. If you choose in your iPhone’s settings to share analytics with app developers, Apple may pass on crash reports and usage statistics, under the Apple Privacy Policy. Micawber has no analytics or crash reporting of its own.

Deleting your data

Settings › Delete All Data… in Micawber deletes everything in Micawber’s storage and resets its settings. Your backups and the copies taken before an update stay in the Files app, under iCloud Drive › Micawber and On My iPhone › Micawber, until you delete them there.

Deleting the Micawber app removes everything it keeps on your iPhone, including On My iPhone › Micawber. Backups in iCloud Drive › Micawber stay until you delete them in Files.

This website

micawber.app sets no cookies and has no analytics, advertising or trackers. Its one script plays the short clips of the app on the home page and stores and sends nothing. Everything on the site, including the typefaces, comes from the site itself. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which may keep standard access logs, such as IP addresses, under the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.

If you email us

If you write to support, the developer receives your email address and your message, and uses them only to reply to you.

Changes to this policy

If a version of Micawber changes what it does with your data, this policy is updated, with a new effective date, before that version is released.
